چکیده
Abstract: We optimized a methodology for plankton environmental DNA detection of the invasive golden mussel and validated it in samples from Southern Brazil reservoir. Limnoperna fortunei is successful alien species that causes significant impacts on freshwater ecosystems. adjusted to detect L. samples, with SYBR Green assay. Based standard curve analysis, observed theoretical minimal qPCR level was 0.0005625 ng.µL-1 (R2 = 0.99) at PCR quantification cycle 14.09–29.56. also presented practical guide be used monitoring fortunei. The protocol efficient detecting can monitor already infested environments or invasions new environments.

The aim of this study was to test the effects of cyanobacteria toxicity on feeding behavior of the golden mussel Limnoperna fortunei. First, it was tested the hypothesis that L. fortunei preferentially graze on non-toxic phytoplankton and reject toxic cyanobacteria. Second, it was tested the hypothesis that toxic cyanobacteria negatively affect feeding and survival of L. fortunei. The present s...

Feeding behavior of the invasive bivalve Limnoperna fortunei in the presence of single-celled, colonial, and filamentous cyanobacteria was tested in laboratory experiments to evaluate the effects of size and shape on mussel feeding. The first hypothesis holds that golden mussel filters more efficiently smaller particles, such as single cells of Microcystis, which could be more easily assimilate...

Limnoperna fortunei is an invasive gonochoristic and byssate freshwater bivalve originary from Southeast Asia. It shows great adaptive-reproductive ability, so knowledge of the gonadal cycle is an important factor for the prevention and control of this bioinvasion. This species is highly damaging to natural and human environments. We analyzed the distribution and maturity state of reproductive ...
